The Deadliest Custom-tied Hoochies on the Planet!

News

Pacific Northwest Salmon Anglers Online is now up and running!  Please consider joining this Pacific Northwest saltwater specific forum.  I might have to work out a few bugs here and there, but the forum is fully functional.

One too many fins!  Here's a nice fish I released this morning (6/28) off Gig Harbor.  The angle of the fish doesn't show it's overall size very well, but it was a dandy!  Look at the shoulders!  The ultra violet backside of a Jailbait spoon is lit up from the camera flash...

John from Team Reda Fishing sent this photo of a Father's Day fish which fell for an Acid Bath spoon.  Note the spoon modification- the blade is away from the fish.  John noted, "This fish had the hook halfway through the back of the lower jaw and wouldn't give it back!"  Nice fish Team Reda!

Summer salmon season is upon us!  For those visiting Captain Downriggin's and questioning the claim, "The deadliest custom-tied hoochie on the planet," here's a little derby history on my hoochies within a few short years of being on the market:

2008 Anacortes Derby - 2nd Place $5000
2008 Anacortes Derby - 5th Place
2007 Dick Smyth Blackmouth Derby - 1st Place
2004 Sno-King PSA Blackmouth Derby - 1st Place
2008 Winter Harbour Derby (British Columbia) - 1st Place
2006 Gig Harbor PSA Derby - 6th Place
2008 Bellingham Bay Derby - 8th and 16th Places (Same Hoochie)
2008 Tacoma Outboard Assocation Derby - 4th Place

Don't forget the newest arsenal- Captain Downriggin's Custom Salmon Spoons!  I am sure they will be adding to the proven derby track record this summer!

I am extremely pleased to welcome Ted's Sports Center in Lynnwood, Washington as Captain Downriggin's newest retailer!   Kaitlyn and I delivered 20-colors of the "hottest" and most consistent fish catching hoochies this afternoon.   For those that are not familiar with Ted's, the shop was voted by Field and Stream magazine,  one of the "Top 10 Tackle Shops in the United States."  Please take a look at their website:  www.tedssportscenter.com   You'll be pleasantly surprised...  Better yet, take a trip to Lynnwood and see this tackle shop- wow!  I spent well over an hour just browsing their inventory today  (as Kaitlyn went for coffee)!  A huge thank you to Mike and the crew for their very warm welcome.

The products page has been updated with a close look at my new spoons.  Unfortunately the photos don't do justice for these beautiful fish killers.  An additional eight new colors have been ordered and will be posted as soon as I receive them.   These spoons are smoking hot!

Fans of the 742 hoochie will be pleasantly surprise to learn that Silver Horde Fishing Supplies will have this skirt available in July.   Better yet, there's an ultra violet version of this infamous color scheme too!  I was extremely lucky to get my hands on these as only five skirts were sent from Japan.  Here's a quick peek of the new 742 skirts:

If you are not familiar with the 742 color scheme, it has been a staple of many anglers in the Puget Sound for decades.  It's popularity and effectiveness in the South Sound around Point Defiance are undisputed.  With Silver Horde's superior quality, the new 742 skirts are going to be even better!  I am anticipating a huge demand and will be stocking accordingly.

Update

Pro Staffer Jeff Tuttle stopped by the house to pick up a few new hoochies and spoons for test fishing this weekend.  We decided last minute to give things a go tonight (6/5).  The new UV 742 hoochie is going to be hot this summer!

Unfortunately nothing huge tonight, but a nice 7# blackmouth for my daughter Amber.  Some of you may remember her as Mini Downriggin on the radio and fishing with me as early as the age of 4.  She has certainly turned into quite the angler!  With high school looming next year, I wonder if she'll still be interested in spending time with the ol' man on the boat.   Here she is with Jeff off the mouth of Gig Harbor.  According to the fish checker, this was one of only two fish today.

Please welcome the Captain's newest retailers:

The Captain's picks for June 29 - 05 July 2009

MA10 -  Ready for Elliott Bay?  It is a crap shoot this early.  Might be a few returners in there, but don't count your chickens yet.  Blackmouth will be the name of the game for another two weeks or so.

MA11-
Gig Harbor has been pretty good this week during the early morning bite.  In fact I have been off the water by 8am both Saturday and Sunday.

MA13-  Devils Head.  This is the only place I've heard of a few fish being caught.  What happened to Vaughn Bay this year?  Inquiring minds what to know!

Let's see your pictures!  It's that time of year again...  If you have a picture or two to add to the testimonials, I would be happy to post it up for you.  You might even make the cover page!

I will be speaking at The Fishing Club Whidbey Island on July the 2nd at 7:30PM just in time for the opener up north.
